Taiwan to Release Six Regional WiMAX Licenses at End of June 2007

Taiwan's government is ready to release three six-year regional WiMAX service licenses each for the northern and southern regions of Taiwan at the end of June 2007, making for a total of six licenses. According to the regulatory agency National Communications Commission, each license will be allotted a 30MHz segment within the radio frequency band of 2.5GHz to 2.69GHz. Each license can be extended for another six years after their expiry or ten years in case of mergers among licensees. In addition, at least one nationwide 10-year license will be issued after June 2009.
